I have a 1969 Johnson 85 h.p. hydro elctric drive outboard motor that i am not getting any spark. I checked and cleaned the points and it didnt help any. I did notice that this motor has a power pack also (amplyfier) part number (389550). I also noticed that the black/white wire that connects to the power pack and goes up under the flywheel to the points was rotted away so i cut the wire back and re connected it with some electrical tape to get a good connection but it still didnt help me get any spark. I am assuming that this power pack/ amplyfier is bad but it looks pretty new so i was wondering if anyone had a way to check these before i go and spend $200 on a power pack that i might not need. I have checked the points and i have checked every spark plug wire and there is no spark. If anyone has any advise on what else i could check or any helpful hints to re-connecting that black/white wire that goes to the points to make sure that aint the problem it would be greatly appreciated. Any advise that can help me diagnose this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
