I have a 1995 4.3L mercruiser, it was running fine yesterday and this morning. I was going and all of the sudden it felt like it slipped out of gear. Everytime I would put it in gear in would move at idle speed, but when I wanted to go faster and gave it more gas all it would be was rev up and not move. any help would be appreicated.

If it Didn't Overheat,.... You've Probably Stripped the Prop Hub........

If it's running Hot,.... You've Probably Stripped the Coupler........

The prop hub is a thick rubber washer inside the prop. It keeps you from destroying the driveshaft if the prop hits something. Easy check is to scribe a line on the end of the propshaft and the prop then go take it out for a spin, and see if the lines you scribed are no longer in line.

This is a common occurrance, I'd pick up a new prop off ebay for cheap...

Re: problem with transmission?

The prop hub is most likely (as described above). Another possibility, is if your drive hit a submerged object, the trim rams are designed to let the drive come up to reduce damage. It will not return on it's own, you have to raise and lower the outdrive back down.....so, your drive could have been up a little too far, causing the prop to slip in the water.

thanks for the reply waterone1. I did raise the trim all the way up and back down, is there another way to raise and lower the outdrive?

It appears to be the prop hub. Thanks for the info.

Glad that it worked out! Again, ebay is the best source for cheap props. DOn't pay $100 at the local marine dealer for a std alum prop, when for the same you can get a SS one or a performance prop.

Where do you boat in DFW area? I am from DFW area, and frequented Ray Hubbard and Lewisville.

God Bless Texas!

I usually go to Joe Poole Lake, it is only a few minutes from my house. My wife and I have a yearly pass on two of our vehicles so we do not have to pay for docking or entering the parks. We also camp out most weekends. Longhorn01, let me know if you ever make this far south west.
It's good to meet another Longhorn fan.
