I need some help. I removed the lower unit to do the impeller change. While putting it back in, the shaft from the lower unit , when it passed the seal in the upper ruptured it. Off came the upper dirve. Repaired the seal, assembled upper and lower together. Now here is the problem

In the Merc gasket kit, there is a large rubber o-ring. Does that go on the upper drive, up against where it would hit the bell housing or does it replace the one that right before the bellows start.

Th o-ring for the bypass of water from the lower to the upper, the gasket is a tad big. Does it usually still seat ok? I have grease holding it in place as best I can.

Thanks

The large black round gasket gets installed in the bellhousing, best to use a few dabs of bellows adhesive to hold it in place as you install the drive.

I also had the same issue with the O-ring for the water passage, a little too big to fit, I reused my old one.

I use some grease to keep the o ring in place. Find AChris's instructional video to see the smart way to install your drive. You won't believe how easy he makes it.

clean all the surfaces on the bell housing thoroughly with laquer thinner

bellows adhesive on the large quad ring in the bell housing/u-joint hole, and again a few dabs on the water passage o-ring - the cleaner the area where the o-ring seats, the better it fits
