I have a 2007 bass tracker w/ a 50hp mercury outboard...I Have to throddle up all the way in neutral to get it to start...will idle fine in neutral once started but periodically dies when moving slowly in no-wake zones...dies everytime when trying to load it on the trailer as soon as i throddle up...have to throddle it up in neutral then switch into gear a few times before it will push the boat up the trailer...runs fine at top speeds but if i turn it off and it sits even for a few minutes i can't get it to start unless i put it in neutral and troddle all the way up...thinking this is an idle problem and hoping a simple adjustment would solve the problem? any input would be great...hate to pay to turn the idle up and find out thats not the problem...thanks in advance

Sounds like one or more of the carbs has a plugged pilot jet. Might be time for a cleaning....

Must be something wrong with Mercury's 50hp motor. I have a 2007 50hp mercury that does the same think. Motor never like to start even I i choke engine it never liked starting or idling from the very beginning. I can only remember one summer when it ran great. Good starts and idled purfectly. Did the comment you get help you? Today my motor only starts with choke and will not idle down.

I've got a 60 Merc EFI. I've never had a better starting motor. First click of the key, every time, all season.

Re: problems with 2007 50hp mercury outboard

thanks for the thoughts...I had the idle turned up a bit and it corrected most of the problem...it puts the boat on the trailer without dying and starts on the first try almost all of the time...i was idling along in a no-wake zone yesterday though and it died...had to throddle up in neutral to get it to start so who knows.
