Problems with converting VRO to Standard Fuel Pump

I have a 1997 50 HP Johnson VRO motor that I am attempting to convert to run off of a standard fuel pump. I read several different forums and it looked like the fuel pump that I needed was part #438556. It should bolt directly to the port side of the motor beside the starter.

However, when I got everthing removed and ready to mount the new standard fuel pump I cannot find where it should bolt the motor. There are not bolt holes and a plugged off pulse limiter hole for me to mount the new pump to.

What are my options at this point?
Did I just waste money on a pump that I cannot use?

Any help would be appreciated,

Chris

By the parts breakdown I looked at, the 1996 had the bolt on fuel pump option, but the 97 did not. You can still convert it but you will have to use a 3 port pump and probably have to make your own mounting bracket.

Is it possible to tap the pulse hole on the fuel pump and screw in some type of hose nipple?
And then run a hose to my existing pulse limiter?

Never seen it done, but there's a lot I haven't seen, sounds like it would work. All you have to do is pulse the pump to make it pump fuel.
Did you buy the pump from a dealer, could you trade it in on a 3 port pump?

I did purchase from Dealer. I will check to see if they will take it back for a 3 port. At least I know now what I need to do.

Thanks for all the help,
