Re: Problems with my 15hp force
I was given a 1990 Force 15hp that hadn't run in about 10 years. The fuel system and carb were full of sediment, so I did the following:
1- Took off the carb, took off the float bowl and float. Marvelled at the amount of crap in there, and at the hole in the bowl.
2- Took out the float valve, which was semi-corroded in place.
3- Cleaned the carb well by spraying (not soaking) with carb cleaner. MAde sure all the little orifices were clean, poisoning myself by putting my mouth on the carb to blow air through where I could.
4- Replaced the bowl, bowl gasket, and valve with new ones.
5- Took off and disassembled the fuel pump, threw away the filter (which had become a plug), cleaned the parts spotlessly clean, and replaced the tiny rusty reed screws with tiny stanless steel screws.
6- Replaced the filter, diaphragm, and gaskets with new ones.
7- Replaced all the fuel lines with new ones, including the external line and bulb. Installed a filter in the external line downstream of the bulb.
8- Ensured the tank was clean and filled with fresh fuel/oil mix.
9- Put everything back together, pumped the bulb firm, ONE push of the primer, choke ("warm up knob") pulled out; fired up on the second pull and has been running well since then.
Sorry so long, but some of that might help.
