i have a 1975 or 76 85hp mecury and i have put the second switch on and when i start it it will run if you hold the key to the star position what is my problem ????

Are you sure you're wiring it correctly? Are you using the right kind of switch?

Mike, When you say switch, you mean switchbox, correct? Does that motor have a ditsributor or the ADI (distributorless) Ignition. There is a troubleshooting procedure for each type of ignition posted by Clams Canino. You should be able to find it with a search. If not, post the type of ignition, and I can repost Clams' procedure.

Sounds like wired wrong or bad switch or wrong type!
