Well I successfully swapped my starter, belt and even zip toed a spare out of the way. And I went ahead and hooked onto the lifting eye on the engine and when I pulled the engine block in the front it didn’t budge and inch. But now after all this when I throw it into forward it dies. It will go into reverse fine but it just stalls in forward. And i did notice it was running rich.

Check the shift interrupt. Most likely the lower shift cable is in need of replacing but could just need adjusting.

After you put the front mount back together, did you check the alignment? (doesn't matter if the engine 'didn't budge and inch', you disturbed something that effects alignment, so it MUST be checked)...

If the shift worked find before you pulled the drive, and doesn't work after you put it back, it's likely you missed the upper shift shaft lever positioning...

I’m gonna take it to a friend that’s a marine technician. I’m an auto technician by trade at a car dealer he’s a tech at a boat dealer. I have a feeling it’s to do with shift cables because I forgot to add that I noticed the cam the idle stop sits on was loose so I tightened it which threw the cable out so I adjusted it as well. And this is why if you don’t work on boats you need to call in some help lol.

Anyone who can turn a wrench should be able to look up how any given automotive engine based system is adjusted, even when said motor is installed in a boat. It ain't no different. If you are unwilling to read up on a task, don't bother wrenching on it.

Why do you think I posted onto a forum. To get information to wrench in the correct area. I believe in my original post I stated I was an auto technician. I don’t mind the work I just need pointed in the right direction. I have already completely re wired the boat. Rebuilding the carb as we speak. Install new belts hoses impeller water pump. Talley cover gaskets and side cover gaskets. Within the next week I will be installing all new bellows. Like I said I don’t mind the work. I don’t want to work blindly. Thanks all!

I was giving you a little prod. You are a mechanic, there is nothing on your boat you cannot fix as long as you know what the spec is to set it to. Adjusting cables, interrupt switches, tightening bolts, lubing stuff, adjusting carburetors, all easy peasy with a manual. All a nightmare if you don't.

The service manuals are all online at http://boatinfo.no You can also purchase the hard copy manuals at several different sites.

That's a great place to start. Other guidance is in the Adults Only section of these forums.

And in addition to all those resources, there is an incredible number of task specific videos out on U Tubie.

Thank you for the info on the service manuals rick! That’s actually what I’ve been looking for is service manuals. Mines so old and everyone I’ve asked has had different information and I don’t really want to half ass something just to re do it later. Boats are completely foreign to me. And I work at a dealership as a tech so I know a little about what I’m doing but I have never worked on marine stuff in my life. But I have re wired the whole thing minus engine Harness, put all new hoses and belt, did a complete ignition tube up with brass parts, new impeller and thermostat, starter and I’m re building my old 10si soon and the carb is getting re done as we speak. And I’ve also made the engine dry again. Someone has used the ol boat and hasn’t maintained her as they should. But slowly we are bringing her back with help from my pocket book and fellas like you guys. And for that I thank you all.
