Hello Skippers!!!
This is my first post on your board and i could use some advise.

I got this 79 searay 23' cuddy pretty reasonable on craigslist as a project boat. The story is.....The person I purchased it from, got it from the original owner. The original owner sold it because he ran it up on a sand bar and sucked a bunch of **** into the motor and he didn't want to deal with it, so he sold it

Ok....are you following ok?

Now! The second owner (not me) bought the boat with a couple family members as co-owners. They removed the engine and had it rebuilt along with the heads and the outdrive (i have receipts).

Are you with me?

So while they were doing this rebuild, they all decided to put some center dump manifolds on along with a funky t-stat housing. The new manifolds made for a difficult re-install of the power steering pump and other things.

I guess at this point, the family partnership went sour and this is where I enter the history.

Still with me?

So now she is mine. I love Chevy 350's....they bring me back to my youth!!! haha

Ok, so I got the PS thing all figured out with some custom mounting...which i am very proud of.....

......my question is this:

The water tube coming out of the gimbal is pointing "starboard" (V-8). I really need it to point "port." I need to run all my water intake on the port side of the engine. So i was thinking about plugging off the water tube and catching all my engine cooling water through the hull? I can easily install one of those quicksilver water intake skimmer thingys.

How about the outdrive? Would damage occur to the outdrive by plugging off the water tube? I'm pretty sure the outdrive has its own water pump. I was also thinking about connecting the t-stat to the water tube using a bunch of 90 degree bends and then t'ing into the hull (in case there is a pump priming issue)

Tell me what you think. I'm heading over to West Marine here in Clearwater tomorrow.

that won't work unless you mount a belt driven sea water pump on the engine to draw water up to the t-stat housing - that would take some engineering

the water pump in the drive is what provides sea water to the t-stat housing and on to the engine circulating water pump

your gonna have to figure out a way to route the hose from the transom to the t-stat housing

Ayuh,... What Drive is it,..??
I believe the MC-1s it came down under the portside motor mount, 'n then up to the T-stat housing...
It passes through the P/S Cooler along under the motor mount...

Got a picture of the T-stat housing,..??
Ya need the right 1 to match the manifolds...

Like Dubs says, ya Need the drive mounted pump to get water into the motor, or add a belt driven raw water pump...
