Hello! For the past year or so I've been looking for a project boat, I like projects. I fully understand the risks with this and the possibilities of a successful, affordable outcome. I would like to run some possibilities by you because some of you may be familiar with these older models and give me opinions on which may have "good bones" for this endeavor. I am assuming engine overhauls or repower will be needed for all so my considerations are as to what would be good for my area (live in Houston so Gulf putting around and some fishing) and uniqueness. Everything is from the 70's except for an 85 Chris Craft. My first choice would be a 23 John Allmand, like the looks and the hardtop. Missed a couple good deals within the last year because I didn't act fast enough. Also missed a couple Formula 233's for the same reason. Just ran across these recently that are possibilities, 1971 Donzi 7 meter, 1974 Stamas Clearwater and the 85 Chris Craft Scorpion WA.
Your thoughts are much appreciated.

I'm a little partial to the Chris. If that's a 254 walk around, it's a boat I've seen put together real nicely. Dunno' the other two, but I do like the idea of the duel engines on the Donzi.

Chris Crafts have a great history and i like that, asking seller on the length...
seller just said 21.3, hoping it was around 23-24

All three of those manufacturers are still around, and they all have a pretty good history. I just happen to be partial to the layout of the 254 Chris. If that's what it is, it's about a 24' walk around.

I 2nd the Chris Craft. Donzi would be cool too. But remember, 2x the motors and outdrives, 2x the maintenance.

Owner says one engine missing on the Donzi, pretty much a give away boat. Thinking it would be a candidate for transom rebuild, bracket and outboard. Plus I would have to find a trailer. It's the oldest of the bunch, 1971. Did research on the Chris Craft Scorpion wa, appears to be a very well liked boat. Seller states has no idea if engine is any good

The Scorpion/Stinger hull design is a good one. IMO, age is pretty much a non-factor between the three boats, as they are all past their service life. If the CC needs the least work, I would take it. I’d rather do engine work than rebuild a transom and stringers.
