Hi all,
Have started a rebuild project and have cut out floor from stern to bow in an almost complete piece my question is: is it possible to re glass the piece I cut out back once I have replaced the stringers, centre plank and ply deck?

Re: Project boat questions?

i'd use that as a template for a new, fresh piece of wood.

Uhhmmm... You're gunna need to cut a lot more than that. It looks to me like you need to do a complete gut job if you want to do it right.

This is going to be a full deck rebuild along with stringers, centre board, transom and ply deck. Outer shell seems pretty strong and no leaks but deck is rotten thru. Will post pics for comments!

Just guessing, yaltasydney is Australian where it's late Spring. It looks like a complete gut job to me.

Yeah guys in sunny old Sydney Australia going into summer here - no such thing as a white xmas! Going to be a complete gut job and update. Will put in built in fuel tank and cooler box as well as re-doing all the wiring and putting in a few modern goodies. Then spending the bulk of the money on a reliable engine. Any thoughts on engines around the $3000/4000 mark anyone could recommend?

What kind of boat? How big? I can see it's a bowrider, but that's about it...
What will it be used for? cruising... fishing... water sports...???
I'm assuming outboard?

Re: Project boat questions?

it is really tough for us to nail prices on your market bud.......there is a guy called achris here.....he lives on your continent, and besides being all upside down., is a great guy....he knows boats...and knows the area.

as far as saving the wood for the deck......it will take too long to dry that stuff out.....and if the fungus has started in the wood.....you wont know for a year after ita all back in and done !........so.....why take the chance over a chunk of plywood?

post more pics bud.......we will help when we can !

Thanks oops! always the man in the know. Haven't posted recently cause site been down in oz for kid last 24 or so. Another question: when laying glass mat for stringers, transom and centre board reinforcement what should I be using, was thinking 430 csm. Is this overkill or about right? Still pretty far off doing that at this stage of the project but seeing how far off I am in regards to the strength.
Cheers again guys

Re: Project boat questions?

Lets start over! What kind of boat is this? Is it a center console? What size is it?

Chances are you will be spending ( if done right) 3 or 4 thousand just on getting the boat ready to put a motor on her. Maybe alot more. Buying a motor for 3 or 4 thousand can't be answered when we don't even know what size motor you will need because we need to know what boat it is.
