I was given a older motorguide 745 trolling motor ....:)
Its a bow mount flipdown style
and needs a replacement pedal .
Dose anyone of the MFG crew have this style tm mounted on a runabout or in a non-conventional way ? Suggestions + pictures please - more concerned with mounting than repairs right now ;) peter

Re: Project interuputs

Hey Peter,

I've never used a trolling motor in salt water, but you might want to measure the distance from your bow cap to water level while your boat is afloat. Most of those motors are made for freshwater boats that have shallower bow drafts (i.e. john boats, utility v-bottoms, etc) and they may not work right without the proper clearance.

Also, most trolling motors are made for freshwater and will get torn apart by the rigors of saltwater - at least according to the manufacturers . I know Minn Kota and Motor Guide make saltwater versions of their trollys for us, but who knows, it may be the same motor with a different paint scheme for more $$$. I'd recommend finding a used 2.5hp-3hp on craigslist and mounting it on the transom instead.:)

Here's a pic of my freshwater tinny with a modified trolling motor out of water to show where I set the prop height on it.

Yea Bob , I was thinking of mounting it to use in fresh water / maybe some kind of removable mount . I was also thinking maybe on the port gunnel as an option . peter
