I purchased a jon boat that needs some work. It has brown paint that needs to be romoved ( in and out)and leaks at the rivets, how should I romove the paint (looks like severall coats of latex paint) and how should I seal the rivets? can I use Glov-it to seal the leaks?

slowrunner,

Sanding, sanding, and sanding will remove the paint. Be careful not to sand off the rivet heads.

You may want to do some snooping around the home improvemment stores. There may be some paint removal kits that will help you out. Just do not get anything to caustic.

As long as the rivets are tight, Gluv It works miracles.

I used hydrostrip502 on my aluminum 16 ft. It is water based, and it took at least 2 layers off when I used it. Not too toxic. It is kinda pricey at $40 /gallon though. 1 gallon coated almost all of my boat, but my boat had about 5 coats on it pics

I would fill the boat with water to see what rivets are leaking then drill them out and replace with waterproof pop rivets. After making boat water tight I would then use gluv-it. Go to the home center and find paint nontoxic paint stripper. If you plan on repainting it just sand the old paint down and prime over old paint.
