Well, I have started another rebuild of the venerable Skanky Beast, which will now be known as Pain In The Bass. I have initiated an idea I tossed around last year. I have been doing more and more bass fishing, and the Beast has worked good for it, but it has become heavier and heavier, and slower and slower due to the way I built it originally and all the extra stuff I have added.

I have re-gutted it, removed the cap, center console, all of it. It is now down to the bare hull with the motor still on (It would be tempting to take it out to see how fast it would be, but I'll restrain myself :) ). I will build in a bigger casting deck, it will be a side console, and I'll build in a rear casting deck. I will still be able to troll for the big fish if so inclined, but it will mainly be bass oriented. The end result will be lighter, faster, and more bass-fishable. Also, there will be room for me and my wife to fully lay out on the casting deck during our summer together time.

I have looked around for suitable project boats, but none have been usable for what I want to do. besides, I already have this boat, I like the way the hull rides, its paid for, and the project will fit within my budget.

Re: Project Pain In The Bass

Hope your having better weather for your project Jason. Ours was great up until I was ready to start glueing and glassing. Highs are in the low 50's and the lows in the high 30's. Plus a misserable fine misty rain to top it off.

Sounds like ya got a good plan going on. Are ya gonna post some pics of the process?

Re: Project Pain In The Bass

I'll try to post pics, but I am trying to get the thing done 'cause its fishing time. My weather is fine, temps in the 60s and 70s, and the garage is handy for the indoor stuff when the temp does feel uncomfortable. I am moving pretty fast, I started the teardown Wednesday, and the front casting deck is framed at this point. I just need to get two sheets of 1/2 inch ply and a sheet of 3/4 ply and all will be sheeted in. I'll be carpeting it as well. I am reusing a lot of materials, and had a lot of materials still laying around, so so far my cost is $0.00, but the ply and carpet will add some cost...
