Just wanted to share this little project for anybody interested! I do a lot of night fishing, sometimes deep water and sometimes i get up into the shallow water around the base of the dam, i recently installed a factory power trim unit on my motor for the shallow water but it is impossible a night to tell the exact trim of the engine especially at low speed in shallow water! I took a mercruiser early style trim sender, a 5/8th allen head capscrew which fits the cog of the sender perfectly, i then removed the starboard ram cylinder, the machinest turned the bolt down to the size of the original top mounting bolt of the ram and tapped a small hole through the top of the ram, the set screw that goes in this hole locks the bolt in place so that it turns with the ram instead of the ram rotating on the bolt, and now the bolt turns my trim sender and i can watch my dash trim gauge and know exactly the position of my motor...even when its pitch black outside!!!
