Hello, I just picked up a 2006 nitro 929CDX 21 foot bass boat and i have done my normal "add everything" (stereo, extra batterries, onboard chargers etc) which has brought the weight up approx 325lbs and im looking at tweaking my hole shot as i am not concerned much about top end. i had a it has a 225hp merc opti on it and was running a 3 blade 25 pitch - at initial tests was getting around 3500 RPM's during blast off and about 5200 Rpm's at WOT which put me around 72mph - i have chaged this to a 5 blade high five 25pitch prop and removed a couple of the vent plugs and im getting about 4000rpms during blast off and 5000 rpms at WOT at 65MPH top speed fully trimmed out... but my hole shot is doggish and slow ... this is with full livewells/full fuel tank and oil well and 6 batteries in the boat along with some other extras. i would like to know if there is more i could do for a quicker hole shot without cutting weight.. also it has a 10" manual adjustable jackplate and i have never used one... and im not sure what they mean when they say "chimelock" but i think im getting this .. as the boat seems to lock up a little bit while on plane and trying to turn at about 30 to 50mph any ideas are welcomed.

Usually those boats respond well to props with built in lift. We've had good luck using the Turbo Lightnings. Excellent hole shot and carry the bow very nicely. Let me know if you have trouble locating one.

Did you mean "Chinewalk" instead of "Chimelock?

Chinewalk is when a high performance deep vee boat rises so high in the water at speed that there is not enough bottom area to support it. It falls off to one side (The Chine--the corner where the bottom meets the side) then rises again and falls to the other side on and on ad infinitum until you back off the throttle. Since it is an alternating movement like walking, it is called Chinewalk.

aha... thx for clearing that up for me "chinewalk" - i have settled on the hi five - 25p 5 blade for my setup as it seems to run strong... very strong.. although still a lil sluggish out of the hole with full fuel tank and livewells - i guess my next question is going to make me sound like the newbie i am... what kind of performance should i be looking to get from this setup? its slow out of the hole but once she is up she takes off like a jet - hits 50mph in seconds but the cornering seems stiff... even trimmed up when turning it seems to not respond right away ... not sure how to describe, but my last nitro (1995 20 footer w/carb'd 200hp johnson) would begin leaning and turning once you started turning the wheel ... this seems to hesitate or resist until you force it.. im pretty sure im trimming it properly which normally could cause this sort of resistance... any ideas? it has a 10" manually adjustable jack plate... should i be adjusting this?

well what is the solution for fixing this??

after i got a new lower unit and prop for my 16 foot duck boat with a 50 HP 2 stroke on it...i seemed to get into a situation like you described...it was hard to explain to people...i was saying it is like the boat is falling over on its side when cruising at full speed... to the point it seems like the gunwal is going to the water!!!

the boat never did this before the lower unit was replaced....

so i felt it has to do with the prop- lower unit - trim angle...

the skeg is bent just a tad....
