Prop Cap

What happens if you don't have a prop cap? Will everything still work or will it tear something up?

If a prop cap is necessary, then does the prop cap have to match the exact year of the motor and HP?

Also if necessary does anyone know where I can buy a prop cap for a 1967 Johnson 33HP?
