prop change?

i currently have a 13.25x17 prop on my 88spl and have a 13.75x15 sitting in my garage... my motor currently has problem getting up past 3000rpms and my prop is beat to hell will putting the smaller pitch have a side effects good or bad? i'm in the process now of trying to figure out whats wrong with the motor now i just don't wanna damage it any more by putting to small of a prop on it

I'd suggest concentrating on figuring out what's wrong with the motor before changing props. No need to get your attention diverted by props at this point.

Also most V4 props are not 13 3/4" diameter. If it really is 13 3/4" then it may be a V6 prop, probably a 4 blade. Count the splines, a V4 needs 13 splines. A V6 type prop for OMC has 15 splines.

What kind of boat / weight are you pushing with this motor ??

a 1984 pro-line center console 17ft... i'm not sure how much it weighs but it loaded with typical fishing supplys...

i'm not trying to get side tracked by the prop but i think it may be part of the issue... too big for the motor and weight or too mangled... the edges are all rolled over .... out of water the boat revs fine and in nuetral i can take it up 5000rpm no problem
