I think I just screwed the pooch - when pulling the lower unit, forgot to put it in reverse as I should have (per clymers manual). Didn't remember until after reinstall. Gears all out of whack. Pulled it back off, pushed the shift shaft down, reinstalled per the manual, got neutral back, everything looked fine . . . until I spun the prop to make sure it was in neutral - that is when I heard the clicking. Sounds like it was coming from the lower unit itself . . . did I mess up the gears?
Help is GREATLY appreciated . . . especially if it is good news, but good and bad wanted.

Thanks,

Jason

Did you adjust the shift rod? If so it sounds like the gear is just slightly engaging. Try adjusting the shift cable slightly and see if it goes away.
