Prop clicking ???

I tilted up my motor yesterday after a morning on the water and after securing the boat to the trailer, I spun the prop by hand as I walked by it. No reason, just habit I guess. But, for the first time, it was making a clicking noise as it spun, in either direction. I don't remember it ever doing that before. Any ideas why it might?

It's not exactly in neutral. Could be something out of adjustment, or worn.

Re: Prop clicking ???

couple ideas come to mind:

Take the prop off & see if the shaft is wrapped with fishing line or something.

With a closer inspection maybe you can distinguish if the clicking is inside the gearbox.

Make sure it's fully in neutral.

Drain the oil, see if your gearbox is making metal. A small amount of tiny metal bits on the drain plug magnet is normal - kinda like sand.

Re: Prop clicking ???

My prop just started this as of this weekend, is it normal? I it does it when i spin the prop either way. it sounds like some gears clicking inside the lower unit.

Anyone else experience this?

Everybody will experience it if their motor is not exactly in neutral. Something could be out of adjustment.
