Prop damage

I have an aluminum three blade prop on a 4.3l with an Alpha 1 outdrive.

The prop has been damaged on one of the blades about a 1/2" radii.

I do not have any vibrations as far as I can tell. My question is, will I, or am I damaging my outdrive?

Thanks, Morty

Re: Prop damage

If it's out of balance it will damage the outdrive. Damage may just be the bearings last 10 years instead of 10.5 years or if the out of balance is extremen it will shorten the life substantially. I would think eveyone here would agree that even a slightly out of balance prop will do enough damage to warrent changing or repairing the prop. A replacement aluminum prop is cheap and an outdrive repair or replacement is not, you do the math and get the condition repaired.
