What Happens If You Switch From A 13 1/4" X 17 Pitch Prop To A 13" X 17 Prop? I Ruined My Aluminum Prop (13 1/4" X 17) And Have Found A Stainless Steel Prop (13" X 17) That I Can Get For A Very Reasonable Price. I Would Like To Know How This Change In Diameter Will Affect Performance.

It all depends on the prop design. Most 4 1/4" gearcases use the 13 1/4" diameter props. There are some slighly smaller in diameter and some slightly bigger. What brand & style is the prop? Is it made for a specific purpose?

There are props made specifically for certian things today. There are pontoon props, 4 stroke props, bow lifters, stern lifters, props with overall lift etc.

It Is A Quicksilver Prop. I Have A 85 Hp Yamaha Motor On A Lund Tyee 5.3 As Far As Specific Purpose I Do Not Know. I Am New To Boating And I Appreciate Your Help In Getting The Right Prop.

It's probably a general purpose prop. Is it coming with a Yamaha hub?

Yes It Is, It Is Ready To Bolt On. Is There Anything I Need To Be Aware Of With The Diam. Change?

Like Dhadley said, it all depends on the prop design. You'll see more change from switching materials (Al to SS) and from switching brands (design) than from that insignificant change in diameter. If it fits on the prop shaft, you'll have no compatibilty issues etc.

Do you know what was the rpm of the engine with the old prop? Speed? Assuming your old prop was also a general purpose prop, you might get a bit more speed out of the new prop because its SS, and may lose a bit of hole shot, but you won't really know until you try it out.

If the price is good, get it and let us know what happens. We'll all become wiser.
