I have a 3.0 alpha I which runs a 14x19 prop. I recently changed to a 14.8x19 and now I am thowing arooster tail, it is only 1/4" from hitting the trim tab and the trim tab extends down about 1.5" lower then the blades. Do I have a problem? The boat seems to run fine.

Hey,

It sounds as if it's too close to the tab (and other parts?).

If the boat performs you may ignore it - on the other hand, any energy spend on roosters or other gimmicks are signs of power being used for other purposes than driving the boat.

I'd suggest you read about props and more, in theoty and practise: Wisdom of propellers

Re: prop diameter

Mercruiser sells a modified trim tab for oversize props and on some occasions the tab is eliminated completely.

As long as your prop turns without interferance you are okay. Did it change your speed or rpms???

Bob

Thanks guys, My cruising speed & rpm's are about the same. I haven't tried wot yet. I'll let ya'll know next week. I will try removing the tab, it was broken off one time and I did not notice any difference. I replaced it for corrosion protection only.

I tried WOT this weekend, hit 40mph at 45k rpm. About the same speed as the old 14" prop but 150 rpm's less. All ist klar! (everything is OK)

Sehr Gut! Aber... 45k rpm... 45000? Is it a turbine? :)
