Ok been reading in the forums and cant find the answer to my question.
I have a Prop with Part #48 78118 A40 17p after searching I have found that that prop is 14.5 diameter and 17"pitch. My question is can I use a prop with 141/4 diameter. If so would I notice?

I think you can find your answer in here, well generally anyway

This is a quote from that thread

There is no "equivalent" so to speak when you change propeller designs as well as manufacturers. A 15P three blade aluminum prop from manufacturer "A" for example rarely performs the same as a 15P three blade aluminum prop from manufacturer "B". It is called "design" which includes more than just pitch and diameter. Rake, blade shape, cupping, finish, hub etc., all affect performance. One manufacturer will bias hole shot at the sacrifice of top end. Another may bias top end at the cost of hole shot. Others shoot for a compromise. An then there is the age old problem of some props perform better on one hull design than another. So a prop that has poor hole shot on one style of boat may have excellent hole shot on another. That is why larger HP engines don't even come with props from the manufacturer. They simply don't know what boat the motor will be installed on so it is the dealer that makes that selection.

Re: Prop Diameter

Trying to say; the prop style has more to do with performance than diameter.
anytime you change brands your likely to have some difference in performance.
You are not likely to notice a difference based on diameter except in the extreme.
1/4" is not extreme. If you look up similar 17" props for your application I think you will find a pretty wide variation of diameter. If you look up props and don't find any 17 in a 14 1/4" diameter you might avoid it.My guess is you might find some below 14"
unless your runnung a really big motor.

Re: Prop Diameter

The only difference I can say for sure in diameter is:
On my Johnny/Rude 85hp I put on a 14" dia prop and got more torque steer than one with a 13" dia. of the same pitch.
