prop/ Evinrude 150

[Zaxxon II]

A friend wants to sell me a new aluminum prop he bought for a back up for his SS. He bought it for his Evinrude 150 and now has a new motor. I need a new prop. How do I know if it's a proper prop for my 2000 Evinrude 150. He wants $100.00 which is probably a good price. Is there such a thing as a standard pitch prop for this motor. Any other info welcome. No - there is no "standard" pitch for an outboard. Boat hull design, weight, gear ratio, etc. all play a part in prop selection. Listed below are four on-line calculators that will help you determine prop selection. Remember though, just because a calculator tells you a 25 inch pitch prop will run a gazillion miles an hour does not mean that prop is suitable for your engine if it doesn't have the power to pull it on the type of hull and load you carry. You didn't mention the type of boat you have so we can't make an intelligent guess as to what pitch you need. Too little pitch your engine will over rev. Too much pitch the engine will lug. Neither is acceptable. Thanks guys. I know I'm completely ignorant, but I don't even have the boat yet. It's a 17 ft Stratos bass boat (boat weighs 1225lbs). The current prop has a ding and I hate to pass up a bargain if it will work. The guy who has the prop bought it for his 18ft bass boat. I guess I should pass. Can anyone tell me where I can find out what kind of prop (size, pitch, etc.) normally comes on a 2000 Jhonson 150, and also what the recommended WOT RPM is for that motor. That would be a place to start.

That size engine doesn't come with a prop because of the many applications it may be used on. Based on your specs of boat, with no other info available at this time, a 21-23" pitch should be ball-park. Now don't go out and buy a prop based on what I just said.<br />When you do get the boat, we can try to find the prop numbers, figure out what you have and when you get to test-run the boat, we need wide-open throttle RPM with the prop it has now to tell you which way to go and possibly what to change.<br />You'll want to see atleast 5500RPM minumum on that engine, hopefully a little more with a light load.

i have about the same boat 98 javlin same hull i run a 21 ss for pulling and a 24 for speed i have a 19 al prop for a spare and it really kills the perfomance of the boat and i hit 6k at 3/4 throttle if it's your buddy try before you buy your boat really needs a jack plate to perform at it's best
