I have a cobra drive with 5.7 gear setup. Last weekend the prop came off along with everything else that was there. So far I have a new prop, prop nut kit which has three parts, cotter pin, nut, and a castle lock that goes on the nut. Is there anything else left? Is there a spacer that goes in front of the prop? I can't find anything like that listed but on a drawing I do see one.

Just out of curiosity how does that happen? Did you hit something? Not judging, just new to boating and makes me think!

When all you have is cotter pin holding the prop nut on; use your imagination.

The prop nut is held on via the threads, not the cotter pin. The cotter pin keeps the prop nut from rotating, and there should never be any rotational forces on the nut. The splines are where the rotational forces are. Most Johnnys and Evinrudes (OMC) have been useing a prop nut and cotter pin for ages, with no problems. I would think that the cotter pin failed due to being bent to many times, and or not made of SS, and it rusted away. Removing the prop, and inspecting everything, at least yearly is a maintaince issue. Just my .002, and Im sure I may have just opened up a can of worms.
