I have a late 70's SS with a 50 hp Johnson. The prop that came on it is in bad shape. I can't locate any numbers to tell me what size it is. Could someone suggest the right prop for my setup? My tach is not functional which I am working on. I can say at WOT with 2 adults my max speed is around 28mph. There are no issues with the motor.

I know it's not much to go on, but hopefully someone else has my setup and could suggest the right prop. Thanks in advance.

Each set up is unique, doesn't matter if being same as both can't possibly have same OB transom height, trim, deck weight & distribution that accounts for the difference in performance.

Take that prop to a prop shop and have it measured, if still in good shape go for a wot spin as usually loaded and compare the reading to its factory min-max wot rpm range to check if inside.

Ideal is for OB to run middle to max wot rpm range, can go from there maximizing other pitch to suit best your boating requirements. Unless you have a musician ear, you need a tach in 101% working order to dial the best prop for your set up. Suggested other props will be a wild guess and probably dumping cash into the blue.

Actual prop is your base line prop, see if it can be repaired and go from there water testing with a tach...

Happy Boating

I have a 16' SeaNymph with a 55 Johnny on it and I run a 13p prop. A 16'r with a 50 HP is almost a struggle for the motor, a 70 HP is the magic. So what I'm saying is don't expect to get much if anything more from that 50 on your SS.

If you need a replacement I recommend the Turning Point Hustler. http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/
