I got a 85 stingray last year, prop on it was ok but not in great shape 14.5 x 17 120 hp 2.5 gm
the boat doesn't plane very well is real slow out of the hole. last fall my father decided to make the prop smaller by grinding it on the rocks (hard of hearing didn't hear the clank clank clank)thought it was only fair I broke lots of his stuff  but only think rpms were getting to around 4000- 4200 but can't test anymore.
any prop suggestions? thinking 4 blade but what pitch?

Re: prop for 1985 stingray

i used to have an 86 stingray, 16' with 120 hp gm motor that was a four cylinder. if i remeber correctly it was a 2.5l? i really liked that boat. teak everywere, good color and design lines. Would have liked it better if it was at a min 140 hp. do you have any pics of yours?

Re: prop for 1985 stingray

I'd start with the Smallest Pitch Prop you can Find.........

If it's Struggling with a 17" pitch,........
It's Probably got Power Problems from the Motor,.....
Or,... The Wrong Ratio in the Drive..........

You might find a 15" pitch....... I Doubt there's Anything Smaller........

Those little motors seem to like WOT around 4400/4600rpms.........
