I was inspecting my prop and it has a bunch of dings and is actually cracked on a fin. Looking to replace it, but not exactly sure which prop to get. I know that props are very user preference. I would be fine getting the same one I have on there now, but not sure how to read the numbers. On the prop reads 48 78120 A40 19P. I know the 19P is the pitch, but is there something else in there that tells me what size the prop is in inches? Also, when buying a new prop, do I need to buy a new hub kit as well? It looks like a some offer hub kits with the prop...is that usually the case or do some come with hubs? Boat is a 2004 18' Maxum.

Thanks
Dave

If you get a prop, unless you match the brand and model you will also need to get a hub kit. That's a Mercury Black Max prop, a nice wheel. Easy to duplicate and you can use your hub.

Solas offers props with hub factory set in place.. -ie- no manual hub. I beleive it's the "Amieta" model.. look here on iboats under props.

if you were happy with the performance of the boat with the current prop (before it was dinged up). just get another.

When you get your new prop you can take the old one to a prop shop and have it reworked to almost as good as new for about 1/2 the price of a new one. That will give you a good spare, always nice to have.

Thanks fotr the replies! Solas Amita looks like a decent option. Based on the numbers on the prop, is there a size on there aside from pitch? There are 2 options available in the 19P..14 1/2" and 15 3/10" for the Solas.

Ok, I think I am going to go with the Solas Rubex...seems to have great reviews.

I put a Rubex on my boat last time. Been a nice prop I went with a four blade since I wanted lower end handling and ski/board hole shot. I like it and for the money, can't be beat.

Great to hear Rick. I went with the 3 blade for now. Don't really pull many skiers, mostly just shoot around the lake or bay. Prop will be here today so hope to take her out for a test sometime in the next few days. I'm also going to bring the old prop in for servicing, there's a prop shop about 15 minutes from me that has been around forever and has a great reputation.
