I've got a `70 Merc 500 with the 2 blade prop, does anyone run a 3 blade on these motors? My current prop is stuck on the shaft (rusty) and I'm afraid I'll ruin the prop trying to get it off ( I need to replace the prop shaft seal) Any recommendations on a new prop or a good way to remove the old prop without ruining it?
Thanks!

My 65 Merc 500 has a 3 blade.And my 77 Merc 500 had a 3 blade.
Generally a 3 blade will produce better overall performance than a 2 blade.
The 2 blade while not considered a true "speed prop" will generally produce a little more top end. You'll probably have to search a little for a prop I know in a very limited search for my 1965 I didn't find any new props.

well not the same motor but I can share my exp. with a stuck on prop and how I dealt with it.
I first used a three arm puller with some straps and pulled the prop off of the inner hub. And then with a couple extra nuts and bolts used that same puller modified for some length and pulled the inner hub and it came off smoothly.
Not sure if this will help but it worked for me and hope it helps you out too.

Gonna try to add some pics if I can figure it out .

Apply some PB Blaster and let it soak. Then apply a steady pull.
Maybe by hand but probably need a puller of some sort.

Do you have any pics of your puller attached to the prop? I'm having problems visualizing a 3 jaw puller on my prop.
Thanks!

I don't know if the prop will come off in one piece for you. Since the rubber was officially spun already I just needed it off.
Since the puller would not grab onto the prop on its own. I took a tie down strap and tied it to one of the puller arms then around one prop wing and to the next puller arm(tied on) and down to the next prop wing making sure it all was well tied and balanced. Then slowly tightened the puller. I could reset the parts to show what I did, since I did not take pics at the time.
