Lotsa questions here . . .
Boat is only 14'9" with the max rated 40 Merc 4 stroke ELPT.
Rated for 660 for 4 people I think. Don't have the rating plaque in front of me right now.
So with the stock prop it runs great with just the two of us. RPM's about 5500 WOT at 33-35 mph.
But rarely do I have 3 full sized adults on board until last week.
Had to move out to the bow area to get it to plane. If another boat came by and threw off a big wake I'd have to start the planing process all over again.
I also hit a submerged log, nicked my skeg (which I'm having a welder fix that) and took a small piece off 1 ear of the prop.
The welder said he can fix that too but I'm more inclined to send it out because I want it in balance so I feel better with a prop shop fixing it.
I'm going to use that one as a spare when it comes back.
I'm going to buy a new OEM one.
The OEM prop that the dealer put on when I bought the boat says on it: Serial # 731-6A40P13 Mercury F10.38X13P
So I take it to mean it's a 10.38 diameter and its a 13 pitch prop?
For the few times I have 3 people on board near the max 660, I'm thinking of buying a 3rd prop to put on for the day to give me a better hole shot. I know I'll lose some on the top end, but I just cruise around at about 22 mph anyway.
Can someone recommend what pitch I should go for the times I have 3 people on board?
Would I need to go with a bigger diameter too?
I also see iboats is asking $147 (seems high to me) for their Quick Silver Black Diamond prop. Is this the equivilent OEM one I have on there now or is their Black Diamond line a better prop thus more money?
It also says it's the one for Merc's from 1977 to present. Does this mean they have made no improvements to the design of their props in over 30 years?
Thx
