I am using a 15hp 1983 Evinrude for my kicker motor on my aluminum 18 sylvan deep v. I'd say around 1800-2000lbs loaded up( dependin on how many in the boat)

the 15hp has a 9 1/2 x 10 prop on it now... It seems to do the job good, I'm just curious if there could be a better prop for the motor that's strickly used as a kicker?

Re: Prop for kicker motor

You say Kicker motor, well if you are using it as a trolling motor, it should make little difference as to the prop & the one that is on it should do fine.

However if you are using it for a "Emergency Get Home" motor, then with that heavy a boat probably a lower pitch prop (like a 10" X 7") would give you better performance & allow that engine to get better RPM.

without a tach isnt he risking blowing the motor if the rpms are way to high???

I put a 6 pitch on my 15 hp kicker and it didnt change the speed more than 1 mph from a 9 pitch I had...

either case the motor really sounds like it is winding out...but I cant find a tach to hook up to the 15.....

not even a check, or diagnostic tach..they dont seem to make them for 2 strokes
