Hi,
I have a 19' CC that has a mariner 115HP outboard. A mechanic got it running good but i notice now that the top rpms are only at 4700 rpms. Before I was getting it up to 5200 but it was running horrible. He must have changed the timing but whatever he did it is running great.

I need to change the prop, currently it is a composite 13X19 that he said is no good and they do not recommend them. I plan to check the timing when the weather warms up but either way I need to address the prop.

Should I get the same pitch? Or should I change it?

What about brands, is there good ones or ones to stay away from? I saw a few reasonably priced quicksilvers but don't know if that is the way to go.

Any help would be great. I want to address these issues before the nice weather arrives.

Ask your "mechanic" why it won't turn 5200 rpm anymore, like it used to before he "fixed" it.

What was the speed before at 5200?
What is the speed at 4700?
I wonder if whatever was making it run poorly may have been making the tach inaccurate.
If the boat seems faster Its unlikely the tach would be lower unless its just not accurate.
Maybe the mechanic will go with you and check the tach with a shop tach.
