I am looking to buy a another prop for my new motor Mercury 115-hp 4 strokes 2007 - with the range of 5800 to 6400-rpm and keep the BlackMax original as spare, and I am looking for a Hustler, since I had good result with the one I had on my older boat. But when I look at the prop selector of Turning Point Co - they don't show the new generation of Merc. but the older one which had a range of 5000 - to 6000-RPM. So I don't know if I could trust the result they giving me, the outcome is the same size prop that I have 13.250 X 17 P - with the Hustler should I keep the same pitch or go down or up

Thanks

Your prop selection would depend on your prop now and the present max rpm and speed.

hi steelspike,

for now my engine revs to 6200-RPM which is just 200-rpm below the max range and I am reaching 39-mph (GPS).
The actual prop is a BlackMax (alu.) 13.250 X 17-P

Thanks

I wouldn't think you would need much of a pitch change an inch should put you at about 6,400. you probably know from experience how the Hustler would compare to the black max.If the hustler is a superior prop it appears it would give you a little better performance.how does the gear ratio compare
between the 2 motors? You still haven't told us about the boat.??

Re: Prop for new generation of Merc

Thanks again steelespike,

OK it is not for the same boat, it is a new boat 2007 - Princecraft Pro 176 - Fishing - with a Merc. 115-hp 4str.
my old boat was a Smoker 16.2 with a Force 75-hp and it is on this boat where I put on a Hustler and had good result, but I recall I had to put one with 1 inch bigger in pitch 101/8 X 14-P because the engine was reving to high with the first Hustler I installed of the same pitch as original 10.5 X 13-P.
This is why I am wondering with the 115-hp new setup should I stay same pitch or go bigger ?

Before a prop change you might want to fine tune your setup try raising the motor a hole at a time to a point just before venting becomes a problem.
An inch could get you a couple of mph and some rpm.At that point a pitch change might be indicated.
If your setup is good and you can exchange the Hustler go with the same pitch to start with.
It might put you right at the max rpm which as I understand it they like to prop for.

Re: Prop for new generation of Merc

I recently put a Turning Point prop of the same diameter and pitch on my 07 90hp Merc with excellent results!! When I got the prop I could not tell the difference between it and my stock Black Max of the same sizes. (19P 13.25d)
I honestly thought it was going to peform the same but when I tested I had gained 2 mph, reached my maximum of 6000(stock prop would only reach 5700-5800?) I have way less cavitation in the turns and my holeshot improved greatly imo!
I am 100% happy with my decision to purchase a Turning Point prop, I was so close to purchasing a Stiletto SS it is funny but the cost of the 2 got the better of me and I am glad it did! I got the prop for $102 and the hub kit for $41.00 all Canadian and that is $300.00 cheaper which buys me a lot of gas!
