Prop hard to turn

How hard should it be to turn the prop or the drive when the entire unit is off the boat and in gear?? I can grip the prop and turn the shaft but it seems pretty tight...

of course it's tight, if it's anything other than a bravo your trying to turn the waterpump backwards.....
What ya doing and what are you working on?

Sorry for the dumb question. Im a first time boat owner. A neighbor was trying to turn it and mentioned how tight it was and that just made me start thinking. I am trying to replace the gimbal bearing with bellows. Just purchased and engine alignment tool last night...

well if its a merc your working on it should turn kinda freely lf all your bearings in the outdrive are in good shape
