I have a 86 bayliner with a 150 v6 1990 evinrude vro and I know the wrong prop was on there but would that gap make my engine overheat and rev out and not go anywere? I bought the right one now and I am going to try it out tomarrow but just curious if that 2'' gap were the exhaust and the prop meet would make it do anythi g that I decribed?? Thank you all for your input.

Can't picture what you are saying. That 'rude is a 'thru the prop' exhaust. If what you mean is there is a 2" gap between the back of the prop and the gear case, then I suppose all the exhaust gas would exit there and possibly aerate the water pickup ports.

The water pickup ports, however, are undoubtedly above the cavitation plate so I don't even know if exhaust gasses would do this. If it were the case then your impeller would most likely be 'cooked'

I can't even picture a scenario like this, though!

Take a picture as we can't understand what you are talking about.

OMC V6 and V8 props and hardware are the same. One thing that will create the scenario you describe is if someone put on a prop that was designed to go on a V4 style case. That would create the space and the running conditions you have.

What are the dimensions (diameter & pitch)on the prop you have?

Hmmmm? I guess it must not have been a problem in the first place. 86bayyliner asks the question, then three days later has not been back to respond to the posts.
