I went to Lake Barkley this weekend with my GPS. Here is what I've got....
1996 Baja Islander 180. 4.3 LX V6 (205 horse, 4 barrel carb)
Alpha 1 out drive with 1.81R stamped on the side of it
Boat was loaded with cooler, ski's, full tank of gas, and myself and wife.
Top Speed was 51 mph at 5100 RPM trimmed out... (I didn't hold it down for long because it sounded like the engine was about to come apart, so it may have gained some more more speed and rpm if I held it on a little longer) Getting to top speed didn't take long. The boat really accelerated well. It feels really stable at speed and corners well too.
From 3 mph (idling in gear) to fully planed out took 3.5 seconds. (held the throttle wide open).
Cruising around 30 mph showed 3,000 rpm on the tach. 20 mph showed 2,000 rpm and 40 mph showed 4,000 rpm. The boat would fall off plane about 16-17 mph.
The prop thats on it is a Mirage, but it has "Quicksilver" engraved on it. The numbers on the prop are: 48 13702 A41 21P. I know its a 21 pitch, but I'm unsure of the diameter. The prop has been refinished at some point.
The boat takes off hard and pulls skiiers without problems, but I'm looking for more top speed and maybe a little more fuel economy. I don't want to lose much or any take off power, so I'm unsure what prop to get.
Also I added a Skeggaurd that has a little fin thing on the bottom. My skeg is fine, I just added it for looks.
According to Baja's website, the boat came with a 23P, but it doesn't show what diameter.
I appreciate any help/advice you all can give me. Let me know what would work best and where to buy it. I really don't know much about props, so be easy on me.
