I have a rinker captiva 192 with a 4.3 merc. The stock prop was a 21p aluminum. I now have a 19 pitch ss that i dinged up that was running 46 mph wot at 4800 rpms. I was looking to get a 4 blade aluminum like a solas or hustler. Which pitch would you recommend. The 19 ss was running good but am looking to get an aluminum. Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome to iboats!

If you're going back to aluminum, then might as well stick with the stock prop. Any reason for the change to SS and what reason are you changing back?

Check out the sticky at the top of the forum page, "read this first".

I've got an alum 3 blade Hustler on my sig boat with your same engine package. The Hustler of the same pitch runs a couple clicks slower due to how agressive it is. It also seems to chip easier than other aluminum brands. Your wot rpm's with that 19 pitch already seem a bit on the low side so I wonder how dinged up it was. What is driving your prop selection? Water sports, general cruising, top end?

Re: prop help please

Sorry here is some more info. My in-laws live on a lake which has a lot of stumps on the way to the large part of the lake. Second time out broke 2 blades off stock aluminum prop. They lowered it last November so I got to see where most are its now back to normal level and have not had a problem since. Last night was on a different lake and bent one of the ss prop blades on something. Would like to stay with aluminum because I have had problems and would rather ruin the aluminum prop than hurt the drive. Was thinking of getting a 4 blade prop to get the best possible hole shot. The boat is mostly used for cruising and tubing. The ss prop is not ruined could probably use it as a back up but need to get an aluminum. Would like some suggestions on which pitch and 3 or 4 blade aluminuim. Here is the info from the sticky.

1. trying to get better hole shot and correct some porposing.
2. the ss prop was a balistic 19p prop
3. 19p stainless steel and stock was 21p aluminum
4. wot was 4800 rpms at 46 or 47 on speedo (no gps) with me, my wife, and two kids
5. 4.3 mercuriser aplha one, 190 hp
6. 1997 rinker captiva 192. weight unkown

Re: prop help please

Always great to search the lake at low pond to see those nasty obstructions!

Wish you knew the wot rpm with the 21P aluminum. That SS had you at perfect setting (maybe a hair over), so I might guess the aluminum 21P was very close as well; +- 100 rpm. The porpoising is more a matter is proper trim amount; too much trim and you porpoise... a prop change will not fix that. A 4-blade will allow faster planing, maintain plane at slower speeds and provide a more stable docking.

A 21P 4-blade is a safe bet, and might find a 20P to keep you in the higher rpm at wot. I'd be afraid a 19P 4-blade would set you above rpm max... be best to be able to test (sound obvious, sorry).
