Re: prop help

Prop selection is based on many things. How was the boat performance with current prop, intended use/load, engine rpm at max throttle with current prop, anti ventilation plate position in relation to the bottom of the hull.

Can you fill us in with this info?
If current prop performed well, and engine was within recommended rpm range, get the same size prop.

Re: prop help

i like the prop, max rpm is + - 5500wot, avplate is even to the bottom of hull, i use this boat to fish and run in shallow water. no watersports, or any hotdoggin, just fishing.

i was un aware of the re hubbing of the prop until after the post was made.

i just want to know if i need a 15 or 13 mabye. i cant figure out why the prop spun in the first place.
too much prop??
the boat has mabye 1000lb with 2 people and gear.
thanks
ps anybody had any experance w/comprops
pps know a rebuilder of props, and about how much would i expect to spend??

Re: prop help

first off, remember that at wide-open RPM, increasing the prop pitch reduces RPM levels by roughly 200 rpm's per inch of pitch. In other words, when switching from a 15- to a 17-pitch prop, the maximum RPM level will drop approximately 400 rpm's. The reverse is true when going down in pitch size. also, what is your recommended WOT rpm range? if its around 5500-5600 then your prop is just right for your current application, but if its around 6000 then you could try dropping down to a 15 pitch prop which will give you a better hole shot but slower top end. Higher pitch equals higher top end but terrible low end and the opposite is true for lower pitch propellers. Now, as for pricing on propeller recnditioning, it all depends on what kind of propeller you have. The material of the prop, the number of blades, and the pitch size will determine the cost. obviously the SS props will be more expensive to reconditon. it can be anywhere from 30-40 dollars all the way up to 200-250 dollars depending on the prop.

Re: prop help

If you were happy with the 17p, another 17 sounds good to me.
A 16p would work too.

Sometimes prop hubs just let go with age and use.

Maybe get a new one, and get the old one rehubbed to keep as a spare.

Re: prop help

re-hubbing a prop isn't that expensive. My prop shop does them for 30 bucks. I've never spun a hub but have re-hubbed a prop for my engine application. That prop is still good today. Things like that happen.
