Re: prop help

If you look at your prop somewhere on the base there should be a stamping. That stamping contains info on your prop. Normally it will tell you the pitch. You might have to take the prop off to view the stamped number. Once you find the number google it and it should be able to tell you what pitch that prop is. You need to know three things before you can buy a prop. One the current RPMS, you have that but don't use the dash guage because you don't know if its accurate or not. Some multimeters have a tach built in that you can use. Second you need to know the current pitch of the prop. And third you need to know the recommended RPM range of your engine. Moving up in pitch will lower your RPMS, Moving down will raise your RPMS. It depends on your set up how much it goes up and down but from what I have read it can vary somewhere between 200 and 400 rpms. Its been about 10 months since I looked all this stuff up in various forums but I think I am remembering right. A good place to start is the prop finder on this sites store. If all else fails ask the marina...

Also you need to know what you want to use the boat for. Such as cruising, top speed, watersports. And what kind of water you boat in such as shallow inland lake or a larger body of water. More blades will give you better holeshot but will loose some top end. Stainless steel gives better top end and hold shot I believe but if you strike something it is harder on the boat.
