Re: prop issues-Mercury
A little more information for those that may do a search later for this problem. I had a spare motor, but did not bother to look up the actual year model. It looked identical to my '74. The new prop I had fit the shaft well, but was rubbing the housing or something and got real tight when just slid on(no nut). The hub of the new prop was made different(different offset length?)than the prop I had ruined. I took the prop off the spare motor to look at it, and it was made more closely to the new prop. The washers/spacers were different than on my mounted motor. I took the washers/spacers off the old motor and used them to mount my new prop on my mounted motor, it rubbed a tiny bit by hand, but when tightened up it would spin fine. I've ran it a couple of times and it's all good. I don't know if those motors came out with two different sets of washer/spacers for each model year(I doubt it), but a prop and washers of a different year will work. You just have to make sure that the type of hub has the corresponding type of washer/spacer. Thanks for your support.
