I have a 88 skeeter 175 with a 87 black max xr2 150. My hole shot seems to suck. I had a 23 pitch 3 blade quick silver on it. I put a 21 pitch 4 blade solus prop and dolphins on motor. This is after talking to a couple of people. my hole shot still sucks but once I get on plane it flies. I have to mess with the throttle and trim to get on plane. I guess I am at a lose. It will do 53 mph per gps at 5300 rpm.

Re: prop issues

Isn't that motor rated for 5,500 to 6,000 RPM? I could be incorrect, but I THINK that's where it's supposed to be. If yes, you're pitched too high and lugging the motor at 5,300. This hurts holeshot.

I suggest you try a prop with 2" less pitch than the current one. I'm unclear which prop you are currently getting 5,300 rpms with...

FWIW, for max holeshot, you absolutely NEED to mess with the trim every time. Almost every boat with adjustable trim needs to be trimmed down for take-off, and then trimmed out at planing speeds...every time.

I'm not a fan of hydrofoils on motors....but a few boats seem to like them so not sure about your setup. Might be smart to try both with and without the fin, but only after you get a prop that permits correct RPM operating range.

Re: prop issues

My fault on the wrong rpm. Went out today again and its 55 mph at 5700. still seems to take long to get on plan I have tried different trim and seems very slow to me compared to other boats that seem to jump on plan quicker then me.
