Removing the prop just for a look-see and maintenance with a simple question: I have a 2002 VP SX outdrive.

I removed the prop no problem, but could not remove the thrust bearing/washer. Any special trick to do this?

My maintenance manual says to lightly grease shaft with prop grease. Can I use marine all purpose grease? (Like what I used to re-pack my traler bearings?)

Lastly, when I put it all back together, manual says it should spin freely. If I spin it, the prop spins maybe one revolution but then comes to a distinct stop. The shaft looks good, no nicks or rough spots but I feel resistance. Is this normal?

Re: prop maintenance

Cheers Bond-o... I was just hesitant to tap on it... but will do so now. Agreed about the grease too.
