Folk-
I am back again to feed at the fountain of knowledge.
I have a 1964 Lark VI Rude 40HP. All is well, except I want to put an antique bronze prop. on the unit. except one small problem.
All aspects of the new bronze prop. (it came off a 1959 Lark) are similar to the OEM alum. prop. , except the shaft casing on the drive has two cast tabs which prevent the bronze prop. from setting all the way back past the shear pin holes. The OEM alum. prop. compensates for these tabs. Since they do not support, nor serve any flow purposes I figure I could just cut off the tabs or have an extension for the shaft machined.
Is this a good idea or not? I would not believe that the prop. sitting out 3 inches from where it is will cause any problems, am I wrong? If so what would be the danger of just removing the tabs allowing the bronze prop to sit on the base like the old one does? Let me know please.
Many Thanks d
