I have a 1990 -88hp Johnson motor and I hope somebody can help me out with information on prop& motor matchup. Is a tack a good ideal or just the right prop.

A tach is very important. I have a '91 88SPCL on a 18' Deep-V. WOT RPM should be from 4500-5500 RPM. You should ideally be in the upper 1/4 of the range. With a 13 3/8 x 15 SS prop, my motor turns 5600 RPM. With a 13 3/8 x 17 SS prop, it turns 5100 RPM. Since your boat is lighter and faster , I would think you would turn more RPM with the 17" prop than my boat does. My first guess would be to go with the 17" pitch. Props are tricky though, and you can never predict exactly how it's going to turn out. Try to get with a shop that will let you try one out and exchange if necessary. You really need a tach to make sure you have the right one. Hope this info has been useful to you.
