when doing the impeller on me alpha 1. i didnt know how tight i should tighten the nut that holds the prop in place. should i just tighten it down good and snug? what about the star looking washer that was directly under it that had like a pocket for the nut to sit in, should i bend a tab down to help hold the nut in place???

Re: prop nut question

I think there is a torque spec somewhere... but good and snug. I prolly run a little more than snug :D Yes, the tab is a safety to keep it from backing off. I bend down three of the six tabs.

Re: prop nut question

you don't say what you have for a drive....

my mc-1 the torque spec for the propshaft nut is 40 ft. lbs_+ (the + appears over the _ in the spec. book. i can't type it that way. i assume it means plus or minus)5 ft. lbs...

i tighten to 40 the plus till the lock tab lines up at three points. then smash the tabs down at the three points to lock the prop nut in place..

yep, i use a torque wrench..

Re: prop nut question

i originally used a torque wrench but once i saw the boat shops and multiple friends of mine just crank them down... i too switched to just tightening by hand.
