Is there a certain torque value I should use when installing a new prop and thrust washer? motor is a 1978 Johnson 85 hp if that info is needed. Also should I put it into gear to keep it from turning or just hold on to the prop?

Re: Prop nut torque

My book calls for 120 inch-lbs, then tighten to next position that the cotterpin can be installed. That would be 10ft-lbs, so not real tight. I just hold the prop with one hand, turn the wrench with the other. Hope that helps!

Thanks. I ended up at 15 foot lbs just because that's where my hole lined up for the cotter pin.
