Hello ,
My beautiful wife raked and bent the blade edges on the original ss 14 3/4 x 19 pitch prop on the bottom while loading. Ugly.
I thought I would experiment with prop pitch and size while getting the prop repair.
Boat is a stepped hull 2250 regal cuddy with 5.0 gxi sx- m outdrive dry weight is 4800lbs mfc wot is 4800 to 5000 rpms
The boat with original ss prop 14 3/4 x 19 pitch would hit wot 4900 rpm at about 55 mph with one adult and 56 gallons of fuel , by the way I do not go wot for long . I cruise at about 3200 to 4000 rpm. Hole shot is ok with 2 adults but when pulling tubers you have to go at 22 to 3000 rpms to stay on plane depending on load. When loaded with 4 plus adults and gear the hole shot is horrible . Getting a skier up is near impossible. I pulled the grandchildren a lot on a tube but not comfortable having to get up to 26 to 28 mph to keep the boat on plane with them in a tube
So I tried a larger prop diameter . a Lexor 15 1/4 with 19 pitch . Good hole shot with 4 adults but drop wot rpm down by a 1000 to 4000 rpm . So I am presently trying a solas Lexor 15 1/2 with 17 pitch . Hole shot was excellant and wot rpms went up to 5000 to 5100 rpms which is a 100 over mfc wot 4600 to 5000 rpm. Mph is about 5 mph less which is fine with me. Had some prop washout in real tight turns if trim was 3/4 up .
I know the solas lexor is design for heavy boats with high hp . Is the prop diameter too large ? Cupping and rake wrong ? I thought I might try the ss titan 14 3/4 with 17 pitch . Or how about a 4 blade. Top Speed is not a concern
