i have a tracker pro-18 with a 60hp motor on it. it had an aluminum 13 pitch prop on it. it was scratched up very bad so i bought a new one. i bought a stainless one. i bought a 14 pitch to increase the top end speed. it caused my rpm to lower 1000 and the speed wqas lower and it was harder out of the hole. i traded it for a 12 pitch, how much better will this be? did i make the right choice. i should at least get better rpm and hole shot , right????? someone help.

Re: prop pitch

Refer to the manual. All outboards need to be propped to within max rpm operating range for typical application of the boat. Increasing prop pitch to attain speed is a myth and a sure way to detonate a piston. Your motor props to around 5500 rpm. if it's 2 stroke. Make the calculation from max rpm from one that you had that was in the best condition. 1" of pitch generally corresponds to a change of about 200 rpms. Improving hole shot or bow lift or aggressiveness in tight turns (anti-cavitation) is a function of blade number and shape, or rake of the blades and amount of cup. Prop her out to make at least 5000 rpms, you should be fine.
