1991 Mercury 15 hp on a very small boat. Does anyone know what the highest pitch I can put on is? It is under a light load (a narrow 14'Appleby)Mercury's website is currently broken. I think the OEM is 9-3/4"x6-1/2". I do not want to put too high of a pitch on it because I hear it may not reach maximum RPM operating range and damage the motor. Would a 9-1/4"x9" be too much? Is stainless really that much tougher?

Re: Prop pitch

We don't know unless you can tell us what you maximum wide open throttle RPM is with the current prop. For all you know it may be overpropped already. On the other hand, you may be perfectly setup now. You really need a tach when considering any prop changes. Every boat, every motor and every load makes a difference on performance so there is no "standard prop" for any engine. At first outing, its simply a guess. You fine tune from there.
